Holodesk prototype puts life in computers (w/ video)A research project at Microsoft Research Cambridge has brought forth a prototype called Holodesk, which lets you manipulate virtual objects with your hand. You literally "get your hands on" the virtual display. According to the official description from its creators, there is at work a "novel real-time algorithm for representing hands and other physical objects" allowing physically realistic interaction between real and virtual 3-D objects... http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-10-holodesk-prototype-life-video.html Do you find this valuable?

The Wrap™ 920AR augmented reality eyewear bridges the gap between digital media and the real world, enabling the exciting new world of augmented reality.Imagine looking at an object and seeing a data balloon hovering above with information automatically downloaded from the Internet. Imagine playing a game where the game characters appeared, in 3D, right in your living room. Or, imagine demonstrating a new product with its 3D image floating above your boardroom table where you can spin it around and allow customers to see it in a 360-degree view from any angle. These are all augmented reality applications that can be created today using the Vuzix Wrap 920AR augmented reality system. Augmented reality is a new paradigm in how we use computers and access the world of digital media. The Wrap 920AR is the first near-eye display to both capture and display images in either 2D or 3D, ushering in a wave of new games and applications in ways previously only dreamed of or watched in movies. .. http://www.vuzix.com/consumer/products_wrap920ar.html Well now, we've come a long way. I wonder how the moon people are doing? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"The system of lenses they use to overlay the image is interesting, and the idea to integrate a 6 axis motion measurement is good, but 1500$ for a 640x480 product is too much... OK, this is a first product, they'll cost 99$ in 2-3 years... or they'll probably be simpler, using cameras for head motion detection (ala Kinect), reducing both costs and weight.
