According to Deadline:

'Terminator' Back With Arnold To Star: Schwarzenegger In Package Shopping Now; 'Fast Five's Justin Lin To Direct

Arnold Schwarzenegger is attached to star in a rights package that CAA is shopping today that will revive The Terminator, one of Hollywood's most iconic scifi franchises. The agency is dropping the package on studios this afternoon. Already, Universal, Sony and Lionsgate, and CBS Films are looking hard at the package. There is no screenwriter attached at this point, Robert Cort is producing and Justin Lin is directing.

1) Labeling this as an epic fail right off the bat is indeed a bit much, but there are genuine concerns related to Arnold's age, how he can still star in a movie like this, how all franchises tend to go more and more downhill as the sequels progress, and how much of a kid's or general masses' public this movie will probably be... I confess I'm a little concerned myself...

Seriously, though, we'll have to wait and see. The movies are what started it all in the first place and the reason why the franchise even exists... Do you find this valuable?

I continue to believe that having a good story is the most important element for success for T5. Using Arnold is fine, so long as his age and current physique are not allowed to become impediments to his credibility in the movie. And I expect Lin will be competent as a director, so long as the other elements are in place and up to snuff.

I'm skeptical about this. For reasons Losa stated. That, and a general lack of faith that anyone out there *really* understands what the heart of T1 and T2 was, what elevated them above a simple chase movie. No matter how much Justin Lin claims to be a fan of them. Well, at least he has better credentials than McG. Do you find this valuable?

I guess this still isn't a total double post, because things seem to be a little more concrete, specially about Arnold this time... We'll just adopt this thread about this now. Do you find this valuable?

Yeah, Justin Lin being better than McG is pretty much the most positive side I can find to these news. Finding the true "soul" and heart of the franchise was all about... Yeah... Tough job... Do you find this valuable?

1. Who can disagree? No one! (at least here)
2. You can use a CG model to use over a stand in / stuntman, so you have someone else acting but you see a young Arnold in the result... wasn't this what Erik criticized in SMM?
The problem with Arnold is not his look, his age, his physique (that, despite his age, is maybe better than we think)... the problem is Arnold to do what bale did in t4: to ask to change the story.
I'm not sure, but I knew that the huge truck scene in T3 was wanted by Arnold... but I don't want to compare them!!!

@Gusar. You say very few could understand the heart of the story... I figure you think to be one of them... and I think the same about myself (as everyone here, I figure), so why do you assume that no one else (read: Lin) could understand (or go near to understand) it?
The problem is not to understand it, or to hire some real scientists to help to write the plot (especially about AI technologies, like in T2), the problem is: will they (=who pay) want to produce a deep movie, or a blockbuster movie just to sell it? Will they continue a story after 27 years, or mainly ignore it for new viewers to understand the new movie?
Action movies era is ended by years, you can sell Terminator only if you give viewers more.

Remember another "old" thread: Gale Anne Hurd is interested to be back too, and since there's no script by now, maybe she will be (back)

If they can cure *this* with special effects, then why still have the actors on screen at all anymore?
I really hope not to see another fully-CGI'ed Arnold like the one we saw on T4... Do you find this valuable?

Well, my friends from The Other Forum, they have a small spoiler / prediction. :D

After Skynet is destroyed, the Civil War will be between Terminators and the Apocalypse will come.
Connor understands that Skynet was destroyed too late, and he sends back in time his best General, to be a mentor of young-himself.
And the Terminators sent a pair* to protect Connor, others to kill him. You will see the packs of war wolves in action.
It is a hunt where the hunters becomes the hunted, and all roads lead to Mexico.

*Being from/in Chinese translation, the pair refers to a woman and a man working as a team. So, two Terminators of different sexes. Sorry for my language. Do you find this valuable?

They need the real actor for movements, body language and behavior ;)

Just think about that Avatar's cat-girl Neytiri was played by a real actress. Why? :D

I hope so ... ;)

But my buddies speculated that Arnold will be that General who is human, and the 'friendly' Terminators will be Summer and Vin Diesel.

But they do not exclude that one of the enemy Terminators, might be a T800. Just imagine a shoot-down between the human Arnhuld and the Metal Arnhuld. It will be epic! ;)

However, they are just categorical: there will not be reprogrammed Terminators. :) Do you find this valuable?

But the people talk seriously, including Mr. Lin, about Vin Diesel playing one of Terminators.

But, I admit there is no names for female Termies... And, to be honest, I have no problem if IT is played by Leven Rambin ... ;)
