OT: The Event S-1 Discussion
Sep 22 2010, 3:18 AM EDT
just watched the event ep 01, and it was ok, but told in flashback form which I dont like, so if they continue that I will have to blow it off.I think the event is a world ending event. therefore the public cannot be told. someone used what looked like a wormhole at end to divert the plane. I will watch a few more to see how it goes. NBC The Event (Series Premiere) 3.7/9 11.19 good initial #'s but will they drop next week ? Do you find this valuable?

So what is this "event"? Have they revealed it yet?I didn't watch the pilot because I didn't like the way they advertised it, referring to some momentous event but not telling us what it would be. Too much of a manipulative tease -- it turned me off. Do you find this valuable? |

"So what is this "event"? Have they revealed it yet?I watched it after Kaotic mentioned it on Blue. Heres hoping it isnt a bunch of mysterious bullcrap that turns out to be a deathbed-dream sequence like some other show. Do you find this valuable? |

"Heres hoping it isnt a bunch of mysterious bullcrap that turns out to be a deathbed-dream sequence like some other show.No to be a bummer or anything, but I read somewhere that the way they will be telling this story is inspired on the permanent mystery and tease we saw on "Lost"... If that's so, I'm not too sure I'll be going for this... I want to be able to see and understand what's going on instead of being kept trying to guess and speculate all the time. From season 3 onwards, the only reason I kept watching "Lost" to the end the way I did was because it was probably the biggest TV show of all time and I felt I needed to see it because of the hype and as a matter of basic general knowledge for a TV fan like myself. It didn't compel me all that much anymore. Do you find this valuable? |

"So what is this "event"? Have they revealed it yet?I dont think they plan to reveal the event, the mystery of what it is , is supposed to keep you watching. to me it is kinda obvious that it is a world ending event being kept secret, some people know and they have been put in a special prison. the odd thing is I dont know who was behind trying to kill the president The wormhole the plane flew into, then the woman said "they" saved us, so now I wonder it aliens are involved? anyway it was ok, I think I will watch a few more and see how it goes. I think the ratings will drop on this, and it would have to be real good to keep me watching, and I dont see it being real good. people kill a pilots wife and kidnap his daughter, and he agrees to fly his plane on this suicide mission to kill pres. that isnt realistic, he would not kill all the people on the plane and the pres, and himself just on the off chance these people will let his daughter live, and her parents would both be dead. then the guy gets on the plane thinking he can get into cockpit and stop him ?? really dumb. but hey it doesnt hurt to watch 2-3 and see what it is like. "No to be a bummer or anything, but I read somewhere that the way they will be telling this story is inspired on the permanent mystery and tease we saw on "Lost"...you know doing a show like lost after lost disappointed its audience is not all that smart? and lost was unigue show on a island with a great cast, it is hard to duplicate that, but even if they did lost viewers may not want to get into another lost right now. well watched ep 2 and was right about alien involvement.i liked the 2nd ep better , less flashbacks hopefully that will end soon. I liked the alien story, good and bad, and we dont know what their goals were initially and now the bad seems to be war on humans after they killed those people on the plane. I haven't read any reason here to motivate me to watch this. Again, the manipulative tease of not telling us what the event really is becomes a huge turnoff for me.

"I haven't read any reason here to motivate me to watch this. Again, the manipulative tease of not telling us what the event really is becomes a huge turnoff for me."well actually, ep 3 was pretty good, the story took some interesting turns, my rating for this show just went from a 4 to about a 7 [ scale of 1-10 ] forget about the event and name of show , and just watch it. still early it could get real good or could drop off again. it looks to me, that it might be a better version of V, seems to be a alien vs human conflict, but the aliens are 99 % like humans. Nick Wauters, the creator of the new NBC thriller, The Event, says that the show will not keep viewers in the dark too long. In fact, the exact nature of “The Event” referred to in the title of the series will be revealed soon.“You’re going to get a little bit frustrated [but] that’s part of the fun,” Wauters said. “You’re going to follow our characters before the event, during the event and after the event. I’m hoping the sub-mysteries that we set up along the way will capture the attention of the audience. One of the goals we set for ourselves [is] to try to solve… whatever mysteries we set up… pretty quickly so that the audience can join the party any time,” he added. The Event, and all it’s short term mysteries, airs Mondays on NBC. Do you find this valuable? |

"I like the show :)well I guess it is just me and you, seems many did not like the way it was promoted, they kept the alien thing as a surprise, but should have let that be know in the promotion, I would have focused more on that , than the unknown event. Do you find this valuable? |

"well I guess it is just me and you, seems many did not like the way it was promoted, they kept the alien thing as a surprise, but should have let that be know in the promotion, I would have focused more on that , than the unknown event."No, it's not just you and Jen, t5000, I'm definitely in too. After four episodes now, I'm really excited about "The Event". It's thrilling and I like the actors, e. g. Sarah Roemer, Jason Ritter and Taylor Cole. ![]() There are some stylistic devices we know from Lost or 24, but it's not a copy at all. The story and it's mysteries stands for itself and is very enjoyable. Additionally there's enough action and the plot develops fast. And wow to the cliffhangers/twists of episodes 3 and 4!!! Just WOOOW! The Event imho easily beats Hawaii Five-0 and at least is as good as Nikita (if not better!). Watch it, if you haven't so far!! ;-)

"(Oh, and we don't know yet, if CW will turn Nikita into a teenie girlies show ... ;-) ... but I certainly hope they won't!)"Actually we _do_ know (well, I do, and now I'm telling you). CW is tweaking Nikita (giving her a love interest and such) in an attempt to make it more teen-girl-friendly. Do you find this valuable? |
