Nikita [2010] Season 1 Discussion Thread
Sep 16 2010, 10:34 PM EDT
thought I would start a new thread that can be for whole season or thru Dec.Episode 2 ok just watched episode 2 live, missed 1st 15 min so wil have to watch again as I missed some things besides begining. excellent for 2nd show, althiough I am sure some will find flaws. things I liked: 1. Nikita was just looking normal this ep, no fancy dresses or too much makeup, and I think she looks best like in this ep. it was Alex who got all dressed up in this one. 2. they showed how nikita and alex alliance starts 3. she used the rifle derek used in Tscc? looks like the same or similar gun, a bit of overkill here but what the hey. 4. shadownet ! I thought that part was funny. thats all I can think of for now things not so good but not all that bad: 1 derek..... Michael ! again confronts Nikita and does not shoot, of course she saved him early on, but I hope they dont think they can do this every ep. and thats about it. enjoyed it , andl look forward to next show. now going to watch again since I recorded it [vhs LOL but it still works and is easy] hope ratings are good. I just saw this episode too. This time I was able to see the whole program.I agree with what you said in 1. This time there were not any fancy parties. Nikita wore stretch pants and Alex wore a cocktail dress. 2) They showed how Nikita rescued Alex from an intense situation at a drug house. During the rescue Alex did not know Nikita at all and almost shot her. She was using what looked like was once a very nice and fancy magnum revolver, however someone must have mistreated it badly because Alex had a heck of a time getting it to shoot at all and then she forced the gun to make another accidental discharge before Nikita was able to take it away from her. The drug lair was pretty grungy an so were the animal dudes who tried to have their way with Alex. 3) I don't think it was the same rifle that Derek used in "Goodbye to All That." Brian said that his gun was not meant to be fired from the shoulder and Maggie was able to lift this gun up and turn around very quickly when the arms dealer she was attempting to buy it from tried to double cross her. I didn't get a good look at the rifles action but Nikita's rifle seemed like it was a bolt action whereas Derek's was a semi-automatic action. The round that Nikita fired did hit it's target and the energy that was transferred to the victim was enormous. The guy was lifted off of his feet and flew across the room to slam into the far wall. The forensics guy at the agency examined the bullet and used that "shadow net" to search government databases to locate the arms merchant who hand made the ammunition Nikita used. Michael tracked the arms merchant down quickly and actually Nikita anticipated Michael doing this and placed a phone call on the merchant's cell while Michael was trying to get information from him. (continued)4) Yeah Shadownet, kind of funny that's the name that the agency's computer expert gives to the internet hacking network he put together. He and Michael discuss the name and the computer expert, Birkoff insists on naming the network he uses to discover operational information. The part where Nikita tries to get Alex clean from drugs is hard to watch but we know that Alex makes it to this point so it is bearable. Nikita really helps Alex when Alex doesn't seem to be able to go on. I read this story when looking up Birkoff's name. [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1592154/news#ni4375311] There's another armed confrontation in this episode. It kind of develops as a surprise but I wanted to say that I thought it was well done. I'll have to count again but this time the odds are 4 armed rebels against 5 trained agency professionals and you can imagine what happens but be sure to watch the episode to see. Shadownet........... in a few years it becomes aware and decides all humans fate in a micro-second ! ?I thought the scene where alex tried to shoot the gun funny and realistic. I think it was just a .38 revolver, and she could not shoot it because she was so messed up , and knew nothing about guns. also nikita tells her she knows who killed her parents so alex decided to live for revenge/justice. and since nikita knew, I now think maybe it was division/percy that killed her parents ?? I watched it a 2nd time, which I only do with very few shows, like tscc. Do you find this valuable? |

"did anyone else watch the show ?? LOL"Hehehe... I just did and I mostly agree with you guys. I know there may be plenty to nitpick about for whoever is in the mood and looked hard enough, but if you were in with the right spirit to enjoy it, I think it has what it takes. Just the way I like it, more background and depth is being brought to the characters, specially Nikita and Alex this time. And Birkhoff is actually a quite cool computer nerd, with his Shadownet and all. LOL The action scenes were again well done, with cool guns. I do agree they can't have too many more direct encounters between Michael and Nikita with him letting her get away every time, but it's still manageable at this point. Overall, I found this second episode compelling, driven, suspenseful and action-packed enough. I got to like the characters some more and that's definitely good. Look forward to next week already. An enjoyable episode. There were a lot of flashbacks, but they were nicely done and didn't seriously interrupt the main story. The big gun was cool, but too bad she only fired it once. And I wanted to know what Amanda ("The Interrogator") did to the captive to make him talk. Our only hint is the rubber gloves, which don't actually tell me much. I agree they should stop challenging our credibility with Michael being unable to pull the trigger on Nikita. Especially given that he showed no qualms about offing Mirko. Does anybody think they killed the gun dealer too? One nit to pick, I was surprised that a soft bag with a small GPS inside would suffer such comprehensive damage after being thrown in such a location between rails and then passed over by a subway train. I can see how this series would lend itself to a new story every week just by sequencing Division's assignments. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"An enjoyable episode.Amanda ("The Interrogator") I think they called her the inquisitor. she is playing the part of madeline from the old show , in first show I thought maybe she wouldnt do the torture thing, but she is . also in the old show they never showed what they did except occasionally. but there are no restrictions to what they do. I think regular tv with censors is hurt somewhat in what they can show, I think regular tv and cable should be on a level playing field with censorship. the gps was never shown so we dont know what size it was, if it was real small I dont think it would be in a big bag? There were a lot of flashbacks, but they were nicely done....... yeah I was glad to see it wasnt about the boyfriend and like losa said it filled in about how nikita and alex came to work together. it will take 10-12 eps to flesh out all the characters, as they can only do a little each ep. Does anybody think they killed the gun dealer too?... they arrested him, I dont think they killed him, no reason to. Do you find this valuable? |

I watched the first ep of gusar's Hellcats and it was ok, will watch ep 2 as ep 1 ended with a small cliffhanger.@ Losa , glad you liked it, I feel same way looking forward to next week and rest of S-1. I saw the preview on my vcr, and next week they have nikita in leather coat and highheels again LOL, they need to not have her dress like that on action missions. I thought she looked better in ep 2 just plain jane. and it is more realistic. I am thinking the season may end with alex discovered ?? and what did you guys think about who killed alex's parents? Sawa will play Owen, a Division operative sent after the rogue Nikita. The character is already being described as “The Male Nikita” and the is only agent thought to be capable of taking her on. and .... Episode 3, Season 1 * 2010-09-23 * Kill Jill Nikita Locks and Loads in Season 1, Episode 3 Nikita rescues Jill, a journalist who is trying to expose a conspiracy involving Division and a major plane crash. Michael and Percy suspect Birkhoff of being Nikita’s inside mole and send Amanda in to interrogate him….. Michael enlists the help of the recruits, Alex, Jaden, and Thom, to help them locate their latest target. so in this ep we may see amanda do things to poor birkhoff? and jaden get some action. " I watched the first ep of gusar's Hellcats and it was ok, will watch ep 2 as ep 1 ended with a small cliffhanger."*My* Hellcats? LOL. It's Tom Welling's. Ep2 was good. It showed Marti is not the only one with a complicated family, and why perky Savannah is usually so, well, perky. And that "helicopter" move... wow. I tell you, competitive cheerleading is more of a sport than some stuff that's at the Olympics. About Nikita... I'll keep it short: I don't share you guys' enthusiasm for the show. It just doesn't grab me. The stories have been done, I found the setup cheesy, Michael was miscast, and if they once again show him letting Nikita escape it'll seriously impede her credibility. I learned you have to do that with Human Target on FOX. They are both like live-action comic books. Certain characters hold to doing certain things and every story will have something that makes you think, that can't happen, or that doesn't make sense, or that won't hold up for the long haul. These are shows that don't require you to think too much. Think some, just not a lot. You just kind of sit back and enjoy the ride. I'll stick with the Nikita for the time being. There is lots of room for improvement, but so far it isn't a bad ride. By the way, Nikita could have easily taken the GPS locater from the bag before tossing it on the rails. Bad point, the bag landed beside the rail and any damage would have been superficial. Throwing it against the electrified third rail would have made more sense. The current in the pick-up rail would have fried any electronics in the bag. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nikita though, is simply not a ride I find enjoyable. I doesn't work for me."Not quite. Maybe I'm splitting hairs but this is how I see it. You've got to "suspend disbelief " for science fiction and fantasy. Does anyone really believe StarGates exist, or that BSG or Star Trek or Star Wars is real? Or that superheroes in multicolored spandex battle megalomaniacs and alien invaders on a regular basis? Or that teenagers battle vampires or demonic forces on a weekly basis? No. That's "suspending disbelief." When it comes to shows like Nikita and Human Target that take place in a contemporary setting and deal with "possible realism" in an action adventure story, that's what I would call "lowering the credibility threshold." Some of the actions might be a bit over the top, but its presented in a realistic setting that lends "some" credibility to the story. I don't believe there is a secret government organization called "The Division," but the possibility exists. Agents going rogue making up for the wrongs committed or trying to take down the organization that trained them, pretty good comic book fair and makes for some interesting television. It really doesn't require "suspending disbelief" just "lowering your credibility threshold" to enjoy it. Do you find this valuable? |

"You've got to "suspend disbelief " for science fiction and fantasy."You've got to suspend disbelief for *any* show, even those happening in our time, be it action show, medical show, lawyer show, procedural, anything. Suspension of disbelief is in no way limited to sci-fi and fantasy. But even if I go with your "lowering of credibility threshold", Nikita doesn't cut it. The Alex/Jaden spat still feels completely fake and forced to me. Then, ignoring the nonsense of what was a Slavic war criminal doing in an US prison in the first place, "technicalities" issues on a war criminal trial? Also, as I said, the presentation of this setup was not good. As if anyone didn't see the switcheroo coming. Then, I read that Micheal will be even helping Nikita in an upcoming episode. The badass Nikita not only can't make a getaway without counting on Micheal not shooting her, now she can't even perform her gig without him. Chuck handles the spy stuff better, and Chuck is a *comedy*, not a serious spy show like Nikita wants to be. Not to mention, the new season of Chuck has Linda Hamilton. Sorry if I'm overly negative, but I can't explain my issues with Nikita otherwise. After the pilot I said the show can improve. My confidence in this is waning. Do you find this valuable? |

"I can see how this series would lend itself to a new story every week just by sequencing Division's assignments."Yeah, well this seems to be a good enough mix of plot arches for the characters and their development and the Division, along with major procedural elements with every week bringing a somewhat new "assignment" for Nikita and/or Division people. I usually don't care much for procedurals, but only when the show is (almost) strictly so. The way Nikita is, procedural is just part of it and I recognize it's somewhat a necessity and it tends to help ratings because it makes it easy for the casual viewer to just sit down on any random episode and still be able to enjoy most of it. "@ Losa , glad you liked it, I feel same way looking forward to next week and rest of S-1.Hey, what's wrong with Nikita dressing all glamorous and fancy many, many times? This is secret agent life, rogue as it is, man! James Bond spends most of his time on suits and tuxedos as well, doesn't he? Besides, Maggie Q looks waaaay too fine to be badly dressed all the time! It all depends on the situation she's in. The clothes and looks have to fit in with it. I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty for all tastes as long as the show stays on the air. Being currently watching two (!) shows on CW Newtork (and being these my first on this channel), I gotta say I'm a little annoyed by the way they keep popping up advertisements for other shows, blocking way too much of the lower right of the screen. You're supposed to be enjoying and concentrating on a show, not being clamorously distracted with promos for other shows popping up on screen all the time... Geezzz... I guess they anticipate that teeny girlies who mostly watch CW can't keep their attention span and concentration on the same show for too long anyway... LOL Do you find this valuable? |
