Challenge/Contest
Aug 23 2010, 4:21 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 23 2010, 4:29 PM EDT
Hi,

I'm new to the world of TSCC. I started watching it this June thanks to Netflix (which is awesome). I don't know why I didn't watch it from the beginning. Anyway, I really loved the dynamic between John and Cameron. For the past 2 months I have been going through many fics and I recently came across one of those drabble fics. Well, I really liked one of the drabbles and wish the writer had expanded on it, as in continued it. But unfortunately, the writer hasn't written anything for TSCC in over year.

link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4507657/42/120_Seconds

I though about it and got an idea that I should issue a challenge to all Jameron writers to continue the story. Obviously, a lot of you are busy writing other fics and are probably taking part in other challenges. In order to motivate people to participate, I figured I'll turn it into a contest. People like prizes :D

1st place - $50 certificate to amazon or any other store of your choosing
2nd place - $25

Requirements:

1. continuation of the fic "120 second" drabble #42 by missi marie.
2. at least 5000 word count

Contest begins today and will end on September 23rd. I will announce the winners on September 27th. You are free to post the fic anywhere - here, livejournal, fanfiction.net, etc.... I just need you to link me to your story http://creampuffer5.livejournal.com/ or just message me the link here. Btw, you can write as many as you want and if it is a multi-chapter story it doesn't need to be completed by Sept 23. It just needs be promising.

Also, you don't need to wait until Sept 23 to link me to it. If a lot of people end up taking part in it and everyone ends up linking me on the 23rd, it will be hard to go through it all by 27th.

Hint: I'm a fan of Jameron and I love angst. You are free to make it a John/Riley fic but you should be aware that chances of you winning will slim considerable :P

Let me know if you want to take part in the contest. Thank you.

NOTE: I HAVE CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL WRITER, SHE HAS GIVEN ME PERMISSION TO HOLD THIS CONTEST AND ACTUALLY LOVES THE IDEA. SUPER NICE INDIVIDUAL. :D

I'm not too sure many people will be interested in continuing a story that someone else has written. Most of the Jamerons that were on this site left and went to the tsccwiki. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Uh, I'm sorry I don't know how to get this to be a wiki sponsored contest.

I don't understand how this is a scam exactly. I'm not asking people for money. I'm going to provide the prizes. I'm sorry if I offended someone. I'll take the necessary steps if someone here directs me to them.

I don't think there is a need to be so rude.

Thank you so much. I didn't know that a lot of the writers moved over there.

Also, its was just a drabble so basically like a moment that writers could expand on. Not sure if that makes sense.

Then, Jen...You known... YOU are the Authority... THEN, is time to work hard with a bunch of papers... :D

Personally, I love this idea even I'm an outsider/reader of these fanfics...

PS For Lostie: for example, here (still) is The1Russter, and he is extremely good Jam writer. Maybe others. Your Cause is not lost completely, how some people think.

It's not my decision ~ I asked the Admins.
And no intentions of sounding rude ~ am just brief & direct, cause I work all day.

And it doesn't have to be asking for money, to be a scam. Getting someone else's story, and using it as their own (like in a contest) is wrong . . So was just being cautious in protecting the members.

MetalHunter,

Thank you so much for liking the idea. I figured making it a contest would bring in more people to the challenge, plus a couple of them will get rewarded for their effort.

Jenkehs,

I'm sorry for misunderstanding your earlier response. It's always hard to get a feel of the tone over the internet. I didn't realize people held contest in order to steal other writers stories for other contest. I don't know, seems weird to me. I will see if I can get it legitimized by the mods here or over at tsccwiki.wetpaint.com

I Think Lostie Is Legitimate, I Think He Liked Those 2 Stories And Just Wants to see them continued. and he is offering compensation to any who do this the best.
I dont see any reason for someone to steal a fanfiction, cause they are all worthless from a $ standpoint, they only mean something to hardcore fans who like specific stories, like lostie. threatening to delete the thread is why most former members her made there own wiki?
another new fan made to feel welcome at red wiki LOL

I am of the same opinion as you.

If we talk about Lostie's honesty, I propose that he should contact the Schmacky and Aelysian. These girls have managed honest, $ 10,000 already, so they could confirm his honesty.

If we talk about intellectual property of fanfics, we must have a discussion in this regard. We discuss what IP?

I do not see that Lostie wishes to assume any copyright. He wants a story to be continued in the same context of Fanfiction. A writer that he pays for it? I do not see why the problem is not legal.

Let's say that my uncle, Sheikh Abdulah of Saudi Arabia, leave me a legacy of one thousand billion dollars and I am so mad that I employ all original TSCC team to shoot another five seasons. Then, these episodes I distribute free on the Internet, as Super-Mega-Ultra-Fanfiction.

Of course, I do not earn a dollar in this business, even JF & Company are paid royally by me.

The question is: I violate any intellectual property? Well, NO! Because I not earn money in this business. It's only an very expensive Fanfiction even if the franchise will go bankrupt.. :D

This is a very common confusion about intellectual property. It protects you as someone not to sell your idea. But does not prevent someone being paid to continue your work.

actually MH even if you do it for free the owner of IP can stop you from doing it.
which I agre is kinda silly, the whole copyright IP thing is out of control, and gives too much authority to holders of copyrights.
if you made a movie of tscc and put it out for free , it would still violate copyright laws, and they could stop it from being released in any format.
as example if someone puts a video up on you tube, they are not making any money off it, but if it contains copyrighted material it can be forcibly removed.

Btw, the author was kind enough to give me permission to hold this contest.

MetalHunter,

I think what you proposed with managing the prizes is a good idea. I was thinking about it as well. I'm open to giving the funds to the two individuals you mentioned in order to secure that this is a real contest and that I will actually give out the prizes.
