Google 'terminator 3000' and it reports a large number of sites reporting the news
Is this good or bad for the franchise? Will it hurt or help efforts to relaunch TSCC? What is your opinion?

Movie web news:

Terminator 3000 Coming from Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment
August 13th, 2010

Hannover House has announced that it is teaming with Vancouver-based Red Bear Entertainment to develop Terminator 3000, a $70-million dollar budgeted, 3D animated feature film based on the characters and situations introduced in the original Terminator.

The story details for Terminator 3000 are being kept under close wraps, but the writers and production team have a stated goal of minimizing violence in order to obtain a PG-13 level of material.

Hemdale produced and distributed director James Cameron's original Terminator feature, but released the sequel rights in 1990 to Carolco, which later transferred the rights to ultimately end up under the control of Halcyon Media. Santa Barbara based Pacificor, LLC prevailed in the most recent auction and transfer of rights to the franchise in January, and retains approval and licensing authority over the proposed Terminator 3000 project.

Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment will release details of the production timing, financing and principal production personnel later this year, in advance of a proposed January, 2011 start.

This site is pretty hilarious... I quote:

"That's right folks, Arnold and the gang will be back in animated form, yo!
What's awesome about TERMINATOR 3000? It's budget is high enough to make this one action-packed extravaganza (even if it is animated) AND the film is going to be based on the characters from the original film--and not of its latest sequel. Score! Hopefully Linda Hamilton and company will be on board to lend a voice or two to the project. AND... it's gonna be shot for and presented in glorious 3D! Bonus!"

And then they post a picture of Moon Bloodgood in a bikini... Just for the hell of it...
Srsly...

Yay!! I'm always happy to get anything in the Terminator story-verse.

Things I like about this:
*Terminator premise
*Big budget suggests high production qualities
*3 D excitement
*Lots of action
*A success would build interest for more Terminator-themed shows

Things I don't like:
*Animated, not live action
*Minimization of violence to meet PG13 rating requirements
*No sex, of course
*TSCC will likely be ignored
*Likely to distract fans from caring about TSCC and its possible return

My big worries:
*Will the story be interesting?
*Can they avoid violating Terminator canon?

It would be a real kick for me if they used characters Cameron, Derek, Cromartie, Weaver, and Savannah, in addition to Sarah, John, Kyle, and Arnie. Unlikely, huh?

Why do I dislike the very idea of an animated movie?

Is it an inappropriate prejudice that is based on years of watching Saturday morning cartoons?

Or is it a negative expectation conditioned by too many cheesy attempts like The Clone Wars?

This is really the dumbest shit I've seen in a long time. I guess Pacificor has no clue as to what fans want.

My hopes that Pacificor will do something good with the rights just went right out the window and so did my hope for a tscc continuation.

I'm sorry, TSCC1000, but your first picture of that cute chick facepalming just doesn't cut it, man. She's smiling! WTF?!

Great! I hope they actually set this story in the year 3000, to separate it from the messy timeframes we've had with the franchise thus far. Just have an Engineer or somebody use TDE to fetch the mains and put them in a story then that new writer's control, but feature the peeps we love.

But PG rating worries me: T's KILL people. How do you get around that? Do the old fat Steven Segal bit where he swings and then do an obvious quick cut where the assailant ACTS like they've been hit and flies backward, but we never actually see the blow? Sounds a scene from the A Team TV Show. Lots of bullets and guys being blown up, but no blood and no one actually DIES!

Wonder who they have to WRITE this feature? Direct?

...any news or ideas guys?

I have the same worries.
The press release out today on this issue didn't state anything whatsoever about as to who would write or direct this new installment. There's still absolutely no information about this at all. Feel free to speculate. Some people are already joking with names like Uwe Boll and such. LOL

This is just for the younger audience, the kids.
It is a good sign that they have and are willing to invest more money into the Terminator franchise.

"It is a good sign that they have and are willing to invest more money into the Terminator franchise."
Well, it was always a given for me that they have and are willing to spend more money in this franchise. That's why Pacificor paid as much as they did to acquire the rights.
However, I think we were all expecting an upcoming live action movie for a (possible) mature audience, with McG and Bale or not, but definitely not this kind of stuff...

Very astute. But, who actually OWNS the franchise now? Anyone know? Like, who CAN or cannot greenlight ANY T project, like a new TSCC DVD movie, per chance?

As we all know, the hedge fund Pacificor acquired the rights for the Terminator franchise in January this year and still retains them.
So, according to this:
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=68761
Pacificor "retains approval and licensing authority over the proposed Terminator 3000 project.". I'm assuming it's the same with TSCC, even though I've also read that Warner Brothers has the rights for the specific TSCC characters or something. Someone correct me on this.

Err yeah, there's just one not so tiny problem... Terminator is not a kids cartoon!

@Losa78 WB retains the rights to all items inclusive to TSCC. I take that to include all characters, machines, and stories created specifically for TSCC. The names John Connor, Sarah Connor, the word or name Terminator are held by Pacificor, previously, Halcyon and before that C2. That is one of the reasons the word terminator didn't appear until BTR. WB had to pay for the use of the word. Do you find this valuable?
