Summer Glau in new show The Cape
Mar 12 2010, 6:35 PM EST
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i8c42c2e07eaa0e329da4af178519443dSummer Glau, who has probably starred in more cult sci-fi series than any other actress, with stints on Fox's "Firefly," "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Dollhouse," has joined NBC's superhero-themed drama pilot "The Cape" in a leading role. In the pilot, directed by Simon West, a former cop (David Lyons) is set up as a criminal and becomes a masked hero, the Cape, to clear his name. Glau will play Orwell, a cute and intrepid investigative blogger who fearlessly goes after corrupt cops and costumed bad guys. And yes, she gets physical and is quite capable of kicking ass. Glau will next be seen in the Lifetime Movie Network film "Deadly Honeymoon." Do you find this valuable?

They just forgot to mention that all the sci-fi series Summer Glau was cast in were canceled after not too long runs and only "Dollhouse" even got a decent ending...This "The Cape" thing is just a pilot episode for now, up for screenings and waiting to eventually be picked up by some network or not. I'm not getting my hopes up. "Good Morning Rabbit" was pretty much left for dead, as no one picked it up. Meh, even the quality on this one shouldn't be too compelling for me. For a review, see here: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/02/08/exclusive-script-review-nbcs-the-cape-by-thomas-wheeler/ Anyway, still, a relevant and up to date post, Maria. "They just forgot to mention that all the sci-fi series Summer Glau was cast in were canceled after not too long runs and only "Dollhouse" even got a decent ending...that review was based on a early script, you have to wait and see if pilot make it to the air and see what it is like then. here is a link to review of all the new pilots in the works that are sci fi or superheroish. http://scifiwire.com/2010/03/ultimate-sci-fi-tv-pilot.php some sound ok, but like they say only a few will actually air. also this statement: TV pilot season is a result of what happened on television the previous fall, and considering that the only sci-fi or fantasy "hit" of the season was The CW's The Vampire Diaries, with other new shows performing marginally and returning shows like Heroes fading, the broadcast networks aren't feeling a lot of love for the fantastic. In fact, CBS doesn't have anything in the pipe at all. If you take a look through the pilots that have been ordered by broadcast and cable networks you'll see cops, lawyers, doctors, spies and families. Although there are some shows that lean toward the sci-fi-ish end of the spectrum, there are only a handful of new shows of any stripe that are going to land on the air. so shows like tscc are not what networks want to try right now, but luckily they still are trying some . just like V, If it had been a big hit then other networks would try to do their own sci-fi show, so whether you like it or not root for it and any show which is not cop lawyer doctor etc.thats why I was rooting for human target even though it isnt that good, is it is different. on pilots: NBC The Cape The other superhero offering is The Cape, about "a former cop framed for a crime he didn't commit who becomes the Cape, a masked hero, to clear his name and reunite with his son." ER's Australian actor David Lyons plays the ex-cop, Vince Faraday. The series was created by Tom Wheeler, and the pilot is being directed by Simon West (Human Target). Chance of pickup: 65 percent. Lyons is a star waiting to happen, and NBC isn't afraid of superheroes. .......... so this may make it to the air maybe 13 ep order. The CW has tapped Live Free or Die Hard's beautiful and kick-ass Maggie Q as their Nikita.......this sounds interesting. she was good in die hard. No Ordinary Family Could this potential series be the new Heroes? The Shield's Michael Chiklis and Angel/Dexter's Julie Benz star in this drama, which revolves around a typical American family who experience strange things when they suddenly find themselves with new abilities. Chiklis plays the dad and Benz plays the mom, Stephanie, "a gifted scientist who develops a power for superspeed." No Ordinary Family comes from Jon Harmon Feldman (Tru Calling) and Greg Berlanti (Eli Stone). The series also stars Autumn Reeser, Romany Malco, Jimmy Bennett, Kay Panabaker and Christina Chang. Chance of pickup: 75 percent. Chiklis is a star, and with Heroes certainly at the end of its run this season or next, we're liking No Ordinary Family's chances. ,,,,,,,, I like julie benz and autumn reeser so would watch this Game of Thrones .....well lena is in it so will have to check out first few. Well, notice on the scifiwire pilot list that they give this pilot, the Cape, the second highest chance of pickup on the list for NBC at 65% chance. I tend to agree that this has a better than average chance of getting picked up unlike that good morning rabbit pilot which I feel is too weird to ever really have mass appeal. The reason I say this is because apparently this concept is based on a comic and that gives it a better starting foundation. But mainly, this kind of super hero thing does reasonably well these days at least for a time. I mean you have shows like Smallville and Heroes even though Heroes isn't doing that well but I think that's because they put it up against 24. I mean I watched Heroes until 24 started again, then there was no way I was going to watch Heroes instead of 24. So, it wouldn't surprise me that this pilot gets an actual showing on TV. I'm not trying to get anyone's hopes up. I doubt I would be interested in this show myself. I would have to say that this is SG's best chance to get back into a main stream TV role thus far since TSCC was canceled. I don't agree with that one article's categorization of TSCC and DH as cult classics. I mean TSCC is an extension of a major franchise, and DH was just canceled last year. So, how is DH a classic already. It also doesn't have much of a following either. But overall, I wish her luck.

"also it may be n monday night too, mon and fri are the only spots open."Well, if it goes up against House or 24 Monday nights, it'll lose. But if they can avoid that, then maybe it has a chance. I don't personally have much interest in masked hero type TV shows since I was a kid. It's a lot better on the big screen where they have the budget to fully indulge that fantasy. Unlike t5000, I will avoid watching this because SG is in it. I have the complete opposite stance ;) Do you find this valuable? |

"Of course the Cape would not try to go up against 24, Jack Bauer would kill his mother if he tries to get in the way."so you like jack/keifer? I watched a old movie the other day, "max dugan returns" and at end I saw keifer in the credits, I had to go back to spot him as he had no lines , and was oneof the kids by street at first of the movie. and he was smoking. but yeah 24 is always well done fast paced show. I still think tscc should have been done like 24. Do you find this valuable? |

"so you like jack/keifer? I watched a old movie the other day, "max dugan returns"Of course, I like Jack Bauer the character. That's why I watch the show. I don't condone a lot of the things that Kiefer Sutherland has done outside of acting (I refer to his various run-ins with the law), but I like the way he plays that character, and the show in general. But Jack Bauer is just a fictitious character. KS is not JB. I see you refer to smoking there. I get the feeling that I'm being associated with being some big anti-smoker, and I'm not. If people want to smoke, it's their decision. I'm an ex-smoker which is really just a smoker that's on the wagon. I have no delusions about that. But maybe, you're prodding me a little there. If KS was smoking as a kid in a movie, then it must be a really old movie. Smoking back then was socially acceptable. But I also want to add, that smoking in movies and TV shows is more the responsibility of the producers than the actors because they are the ones writing the script and calling the shots. But I would have some respect for any actor that refused to be apart of that. TSCC and 24 are both action shows but vastly different in other ways. 24 is more like a Tom Clancy kind of plot. Hey @t5000, did you see that 24 episode? Jack Bauer told that bomber guy that if he didn't give him information that he was personally going to take his mother out to the bomb site and expose her to lethal radiation. LOL. I love it. He's the most evil good guy on TV.

He's the most evil good guy on TV."yeah I saw it , he was saying the only thing he could to get the guy to not blow himself up. the mother was his only weak spot. I have seen all the 24 seasons, some better than others, but they are always well done fast paced and have some good plot twists along the way. they still have drama and character development, so even when there is no action, the story is moving along at fast pace and things end and get answered along the way. like the russian guy has already been dealt with, and the foriegn guys brother. IN Tscc they took way too long to tell small storys, a little here and a little there. that why I say tscc would have been better like 24, I meant the style of storytelling. ** and I dont mean to prod you about smoking, I will try not to bring it up, like the kiefer thing. I think he was and may still be a smoker, I am pretty sure he did when he was younger. I keep hearing they may cancel 24 , but even though it doesnt get the ratings it used to it still does pretty good, and kiefer is the only expensive actor. but I wonder if he is getting tired of doing it, 8 years is a long time. @t5000Firstly, I don't care if you talk about smoking. I probably didn't understand your intent well in that case. I'm not saying that you're offending me. That subject has popped up a lot lately. If a smoker reads some of these discussions we've had and that gives them that much more motivation to quit, then that would be great. The various governments around the country are eventually going to raise the taxes on cigarettes so high that no one will be able to afford them legally any ways. Compared to 24, TSCC poked along. Plus, there's a lot more characters to focus on in 24. They don't spend all this time delving into the feelings and relationships between characters. They define the characters through their actions/choices which is more inline with what real people do and that allows them to keep the story fast paced. How about that twist with the Dana Walsh character? I actually didn't see that one coming. That side story seemed a little unrelated, but now it has new life. See, Starbuck can be an evil ***** in any universe. About the rumors of canceling 24, I haven't heard they were thinking about canceling just yet but I have heard various rumors about KS leaving and stuff like that. Eventually, every show comes to an end except the Simpsons. But that would suck. 24 is the basis, the very foundation of my TV viewing experience. I don't know what I'm going to do if they cancel. @Eagle and t5000Glad to hear that you are fans of 24. ;-) I really like to watch 24 too. Though I never watched it from week to week. First I bought the DVD sets of seasons 1 to 5 at special price (e. g. season 1 for 10,-EUR) and watched each season in a week or two (in long winter nights ;-)). When I had caught up, I recorded season 6 and 7 when they aired on German pay tv. Did watch them again in one or two weeks per season. Now I'm recording season 8. Episode 7 will air on Monday on German pay tv. Again I'll wait until all episodes are recorded and then will do a marathon when I have the time for (please don't spoil season 8 for me, I haven't seen a minute until now). BTW, 24 is the ideal series for marathons imho ;-)) Let's hope, that season 8 is not the last one. Hey, do you remember Nina Meyers? She was a fascinating character (even though she was a bad "guy"). It's a pity that she was killed in season 3 (or 4?) Do you find this valuable? |

'The Cape' exec denies 'campy' toneThursday, September 9 2010, 11:53am EDT By Morgan Jeffery, TV Reporter http://www.digitalspy.com/ustv/s124/the-cape/news/a275282/the-cape-exec-denies-campy-tone.html The executive producer of The Cape has insisted that the upcoming NBC series will not be "campy" in tone. John Wirth told Crave Online that the show will be a realistic take on the superhero genre. "It's not going to be campy," he claimed. "In fact, I think we're going to work very hard to keep it from being [like that]." He explained that he was keen to avoid comparisons with light-hearted comic adaptations such as the '60s Batman television series. "The stakes of the show will be real and the consequences, the danger, is all real," he said. "It's like in your world or my world. It's just real." Series creator Thomas Wheeler previously claimed that the program will feature a "classic rogues' gallery" of villains. The Cape is expected to air on NBC during the 2010-2011 television season as a midseason replacement. Do you find this valuable? |
