DH Tech gone wild! Anyone ELSE see SG's new ep?

I'm a fan of Summer, so I watched the new Dollhouse ep (saw it on Hulu bc I can't stand Fox anymore...).I am NOT a SG fanboy, but this thread will be for anyone that wants to gush. I thought I'd check it out not only to support her (hey, the more the view numbers go up the better, right?) , and to see what she is up to in a new role. She plays a glitchy (same thing happened to her chip as Cam) DH tech with what seems to be an evil side. Kinda like a creepy CW mixed with the physist girl gone all evil Goddess on Angel... Anyway, it was a small role, but it seemed to me she did the "little things" right; in that it made (me) want to know more about who she is, why she is all messed up, and what the hell she is doing, and what the hell she is about to do to Eliza Dushku! The wry smirk she gives at the end right before she pulls the switch and says "let's play" is an instant classic. I think this shows off SG's acting skills, as she takes a minor part and expounds upon it, albeit this is yet again a rather quirky role that she has to play straight up (most humans just aren't so stiff). But she SELLS it and just when you think this is typecasting for her she brings new layers to it and adds depth and dimension and makes her own in a new time similar to the past but actually...different. So THAT makes it okay! I'm no acting critic, and I am certainly bais bc I do want to see SG do well and have a great acting career (so I'm pulling for her) but she didn't fumble the ball and made her part work. Oh, and this was actually a good DH ep - the first one I've seen this season. The last ep I saw was the missing "future" ep that didn't air on TV, which was good too. Comments? Do you find this valuable? |

"cont.I saw it in a less than legal way, and yes she did seem a little evil and such, but damn she did the same to me as she did in the Unit series: made me feel sad for her characther, and hope she will end up good again:-) Do you find this valuable? |

"I drug myself through the last two eps of DH, I'd given up on it and decided to see what everyone was talking about... Really, all I saw was Summer playing another crazy person. A cross between River, who is just bizarre and Cameron when she glitches. She was playing a role of possibly like River who's gotten a bit of psychiatric help, but still is insane underneath. I thought the interplay with Topher was cute, but did not compel me. Do you find this valuable? |

psycho sadist control freak is an awesome role for her I liked this cute flirty thing with Topher next ep she will be on is #11 Getting Closer I hope we will found out more about this character I’m curious what really happened between Echo and Bennett when her arm was damaged Do you find this valuable? |

"cont.I think S2 has seen much better acting imho and particularly by Eliza Dushku as Echo has improved - she's done really good performances in a few episodes. S2E2-3 are good Eliza eps. S2E4 - good Sierra ep. S2E1 - good Topher/Saunders stuff that's what I remember from it. Seems threat of cancellation made everyone raise their game on acting and writing, maybe I'm just imagining things but the first 4 eps of S2 were among the best of the entire series. I don't think I've watched every S1 ep though. EDIT:typos Do you find this valuable? |

I gave up on DH after suffering through 13 eps of lackluster TV. I only watched the last 2 eps with Summer in support of her as a fan. However, these 2 eps were significantly better than any S1 eps. Unfortunately for DH, it is too late. However, I thought Summer was brilliant. Yes, the character had similarities to Cameron and River Tam but that is Joss's fault. He said he wanted her to play a different character but in the end I guess he couldn't help making the character a damaged girl. Which of course is Summer's niche. However, if you've ever watched Summer in her previous roles on TSCC, Firefly, The 4400, The Unit, you will note that although the roles have similarities that Summer manages to make them distinctly different with different personalities. When I saw Summer as Bennett, I didn't see Cameron or River Tam though I ackowledge similarities. This is to Summer's credit. Contrast that to Eliza Dushku who has had many opportunities on DH to play different characters but unfortunately I always just see Eliza. It just always seems like Eliza displays the same personality behind all the characters. That is a lack of acting skill. I'm not saying Eliza cannot act well in other things, but this was just not the role for her. It should have been Summer.

So maybe you're right. However from the 2 eps I just saw, I still don't see a whole lot of difference but I will allow that I am not looking at a complete picture. Also to be fair, an actress can only work with what she is given. Joss wrote Summer's guest role especially for her, however, it is probably harder to write a new distinct role for Eliza every week. However, that is Joss' responsibility. So I think Joss may need to take some of the blame for fleshing out the Echo/Caroline role (or lack there of) and those of us that are unsatisfied should not just blame Eliza. Do you find this valuable? |

I already commented on the other 2 threads, but think her shows [on DH ] deserve their own thread, so will comment again here. I thought she did a great job with a unique character. I didnt think I would like it, but she made the character likable , and it was well written. her repeating "please make sure!! " 3 times made me laugh each time I watched it. both eps were surprisingly good eps for DH I would say the best ones by far, and not just because summer was in them. the story was good too. what maximus said about eliza and her caracters always seem the same is true, but eliza wasnt selected for the part, she chose that role, as this show was her idea to begin with , she pitched the show to fox, and then they said get someone to help you develop it and she then got joss W. that is why she is a "producer" on the show. so this wasnt really a JW show. she is a ok actress, but for echo what was really needed was a versatile actress and there arent but a few around capable of doing multible personalities. and also it would have helped if she wore wigs and different makeup etc. to help her look different in her characters. but back to summer, I am looking forward to ep 2x11 to see crazy bennett again. next week is the guy from firefly back again so it might be ok too. and 2 eps on that nite too. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm waiting for Amy Acker as Whiskey/Saunders to return :-) In one ep in particular Eliza impressed me, I don't want to set any preconceptions so I won't tell which one. Anyway my pet theory is that since Dushku is also the producer (or something) she doesn't devote her mind full time on portraying and rehearsing the role. If JW who invented the concept himself can't manage his own concept maybe he should try something less radical next time, or elist the help of someone who can :-) Do you find this valuable? |

Rachel Conroy (8 episodes, 2009) that will air on ABC in 2010 and 2 movies. her last ep was vows on sept 25 I guess she jumped ship when she saw it was going down. the show would have been better if amy had had a bigger role i it. Do you find this valuable? |

The Topher/Saunders scenes in S2E1 were very good and it wasn't only because Acker was scantily clad in one of them. They even had to dress her down with facial scars and a lab coat, otherwise it would have been ridiculously apparent that AA is the hottest actress on the show :-) Do you find this valuable? |

"According to the bottom of this page, AA is set to appear in 3 Season 2 eps, so I don't think my wait will be as long.Wasn't Amy the geek phyicist on Angle that became a Goddess? If so, I was amazed that a scrawny kid DID look hot in her red leather get up. But I was saw the girl died - and was gone for good. But the Goddess character had a lot of depth, kinda like CW...it came from odd angles, had lots of surprises, and held your interest. Which ep in DH was AMy "scanitly clad" in? Might be wourth gawking - uh, "reviewing"... Do you find this valuable? |
