Am i the only one that feels sorry for Cameron?
Oct 28 2009, 3:38 PM EDT | Post edited: Oct 28 2009, 3:38 PM EDT
I've watched through the all the eps several times over now but afterwards i always feel sorry for Cameron at how she's treated and never really respected... I dunno how/why but i just have alot of empathy for her. I dunno if this was how her role was written and how well Summer Glau plays the character but during season two especially you get the sense that there's real feelings and thoughts inside her especially with the way she begins to look at people despite the fact shes a machine where her only thoughts comprise of 1's and 0's.
I dunno, for me i just want to forget the fact shes a machine and treat her as a human... I just get the sense that that is what she yearns for.

When did Cameron ever yearn to be human. Her existence is all about her mission. Which is not totally clear from her actions in the show. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

You're not the only one, MANY of us feel the same way.

JF confirmed that she did love John in one of the commentaries, and he also confirmed that John was in love with her (he just ran from his feelings)

I remember there was a thread just about this with TONS of Cameron sympathizers and hundreds of posts that felt the same way! You're definitely not alone Richy.

I really felt this watching Self Made Man and Ourselves Alone. Our poor lonely robot just can't catch a break huh? :(

I do feel sorry for her. She was strugling with the order to terminate John (according to Josh, she never reverted back to her mission to protect him). She saw herself as a risk, and decided to leave him (BtR). But it seems she wanted John to follow her (again, according to Josh), hum...

So yeah, I feel sorry for her

I do feel empathy for Cameron, but the reason I do is because my basic humanity recognizes the true humanity behind the character-Summer. The writers are deliberately blurring the line between what it means to be human and what it would mean for a robot to mimmic human attributes. Add to that, the
possibility of true personhood emerging from complex matter???, which the writers seem to be doing as well. If Asimo fell down the stairs, I would want to set the 'thing' upright, appreciate the amazing creativity
of the persons behind it's existence, but I wouldn't feel empathy for it. I wouldn't feel sorry for it.
If a turtle is upsidedown in the road, I stop, pick it up and place it upright on the side of the road. I have
empathy and feel sorry for my fellow creatures, but not for a machine, when I know that it's just a machine. From my perspective an animal, which is not a person, is more valuable than a machine
and humanity still more valuable.

Dude, if you can't feel sympathetic towards your main character in the slightest than something is horribly wrong.

Even if it is just a "facade" with Cameron, I still LIKE her, and that's really do to the writers and Summer's performance as well.

I'm sure they still meant to have people identify with Cameron, especially because whenever she did anything that was particularly shocking (like walking out on Demetri and her sister) it made much more of an impact.

So it kinda goes both ways, you still sympathize with her, but you know she's still a cold-hearted machine.... and yet you still like her. lol

I'm not sure if you were responding to what I said or not.
Nevertheless, I can agree with everthing you said.

*edit* I was just trying to make a distinction between reality and fiction.

The main character is Sarah Connor. And with even her character as you can tell by some fans reactions to her, some don't have sympathy towards her either. Especially when she felt the need to enforce the burning of all cyborg spare parts.
IMO

Agree.

Making the robot do laundry won't really affect her ability to perform her mission.

As long as her "mission" is being accomplished, she is "happy."
