So Let Us Not Talk Falsely Now

Thanks to Bryan (Pyrodude) for the suggestion to post my fic here...

This is a TSCC/BSG crossover, with the goal of not only giving TSCC a proper ending but undoing the mess that was the final season of BSG... Focuses on John and Cameron, as well as Leoben Conoy and Sarah. Read, review, criticize, mock, etc...

I hope you enjoy it!

This is a great story and I've been a fan of it since I first read it.

A somewhat long review"

The introduction pulls you in and gets you into the mind of Sarah and all of her concerns, worries, and fears over the last 15ish months since they jumped forward in time. The intro with the melding of Sarah and Starbuck was quite interesting, but ya gotta read it.

Leoben Conoy is perhaps one of the most interesting Cylons in BSG. He isn't a good guy, he isn't a bad guy, and he always seemed to be out and doiung his own thing, separate from the Cylons as a whole. In Chapter 1 when he's introduced I thought I was watching BSG; the characterization is great.

The characterization of Leoben, Sarah, Derek, John, Cameron, and the others is probably the best part of the story. It stays true to the shows while expanding on the characters and making them deeper, with little changes which seem natural, like if the shows both had more time that's how the characters would have been.

The detail in the scenes is like you're watching it on television.

Just a few highlight I especially liked:

Leoben in the time machine with the details of time travel (I like the technical stuff) and everything which is running through his mind as he figures out what he has to do... then the pimp scene, hilarious.

Derek and John in the truck about Jessie and his future added a whole new dimension to Derek's character. It made him more than just a traumatized resistance fighter from the future.

John and Cameron's talk on the steps of their house... I think if you like the John-Cameron relationship this one is one of the best I've read. His discussion with his mom was also pretty great, especially Sarah's come back about leadership and being a leader.

The question Weaver asked Joshua towards the end of the first scene in Chapter 7 was great, unexpected, and added a whole new depth to Weaver's character. In the role she's taking in this story, that single question just added so much.

Chapter 8 has probably been one of my favorite's so far because it shows that the Connor's are not operating in a bubble like it seemed on the show. Their consequences (like the shootout at the pier in Brother's of Nablus) seemed to have little to no lasting repercussions in that it was always the Connors v the Terminator. Now the government is involved, shadow groups, and the water delivery men are onto the Connors, and onto Cameron and her nature.

Of which, the way Cameron is described in this chapter, you really have to read it to appreciate how well it's written, how detailed it is, and the story Visi0nary is developing for TSCC there.

And it was an awesome chapter because Michael Ironside is made of pure win. He's awesome. While he didn't make an appearance, just the image of him as General Ashdown is enough.

Chapter 10, "Theory of Logic," is up... http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4935913/11/So_Let_Us_Not_Talk_Falsely_Now#

I'm about 2200 words into Chapter 11 and over 3,000 words into Chapter 12, so I don't think the wait for the next update will be over a month!

I enjoyed it. I think one of the best things is that all the actions of Skynet and the Connors are getting attention. It's not like this is all happening to John, Sarah, Derek, Cameron and some people caught in the middle like Goode, Fisher, Jesse, etc. It's getting the attention of the government.

I do like the very limited bits with Die Hard with Thomas Gabriel and I think using that movie as an example of how infrastructure is so computer dependent, and how a hacker (or AI) could exploit it is a nice addition.

Castor and Hudson are great... a bit like Turk and JD from Scrubs. I had a feeling Cain was going to end up being a machine. Now it's just figuring out if she's on humanity's side, the machine side, or her own....

And I have to compliment you on not making Ashdown an idiot. He led the Resistance for 15 years. An idiot could not have done that... but he was hit with The Stoopids so Connor could be right in the movie... uh...

Great chapter.

Indeed... I should be more mindful of my source material when trying to get updates out!

Honestly - I don't set out to write 10,000+ word chapters... It sort of just happens!

UPDATE: Chapter 12 is about 40% complete and I hope to have that up near 90% over the weekend.

There was a reference to TOPIO in Chapter 11... If you followed the link in the authors' notes you probably saw a picture of version 2.0 of the drone which is reminiscent of a streamlined Model 0005 Centurion. A loyal reader and reviewer, TK-MR, sent me a picture of the proposed TOPIO version 3.0:

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/245/tosy.jpg

I was just thinking that all my bad feelings regarding the BSG finale might have been erased if they'd shown TOPIO in those final few seconds when the "Advances in Robotics" video was playing. Does anyone else think that the sexbot that was displayed during that video was a reference to Cameron?

I'm glad you're taking the time to check it out!

As for the strangeness factor... Given the way BSG actually ended yes it may be kind of strange to put these two together (although there is a fantastic story written from just that perspective called "An Angel With No Fate")...

I am and will always be a bigger Terminator than BSG fan, but there were things about BSG that I thought really worked well and could have worked better had they been explored more thoroughly. So much of how everything in that series actually happened was glossed over. One of the big reasons I started this fic was that I thought that if you took what worked from BSG and merged it together properly with TSCC that I'd create something that not only gave BSG a satisfying conclusion that makes sense but also carries on with John, Cameron and Sarah's story that was criminally cut short...

I hope you enjoy it...

As for the next chapter, we stand at a solid 9,000 words and I'm back in touch with my beta... If I hear from her quick enough and find the time this weekend we should be good for a Monday update...
