The NEW "Song Suggestions for TSCC" Thread-- POST HERE!

I've liked all the songs (yes, all two!) on the show so far... and I'd love to hear more to kind of change the mood, the style, whatever... once in a while.

These songs are from my new favorite group: Grace Potter And The Nocturnals. Fantastic! Such strong song writing and energy for a fairly young band. This is one goup you MUST see live at least once. They put their all into their concerts.

"Falling or Flying"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEKnYA2b7NQ

“Mastermind”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJg_GGsLSkU

“Nothing But The Water”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY3GhDmRLos

“Ah Mary” (maybe the new National Anthem? LOL!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVddqalx9gg

Mr. Columbus:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rWTBfM3y3g

"In The Meantime"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aXiYeXurdc

Enjoy!! And post away!

The other song thread from an hour ago wasn't good enough for you? LOL

Fine... I'll reiterate my post from that one:

"So Happy" from Theory of a Deadman.
Work well for the antishippers. John has Riley now, and no longer needs a "Cameron with issues".

And just to be fair....here's one for the pro-shippers:

"Mountain" by Tonic.
I couldn't find a good youtube link since it's not that popular of a song, but here is a cover band performing it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnjkDGpsExA

She
She came down
From the mountain
And I
I stood my ground
On the mountain

(Chorus):
Like a fire I'm drawn to her lust
I can't run from her but Lord I must
Like a demon I'm drawn to her flame
I'm gonna burn calling her name
I'm gonna burn calling her name

She
She came down
From the mountain
And I
I stood my ground
On the mountain

*Chorus*

She's got a sweetness about her
That I can't explain
She's got a wonderment about her
That I can't deny
And if we are patient
Then maybe we'll get it straight
On the mountain

*Chorus*

IMO...the "Mountain" is a metaphore for the impending doom of Judgment day...the future, personified. It also tells of John having mixed feelings about Cameron. He is drawn to her, but fears she may be a threat to him...angsty.

Christmas! Nukes! Judgement Day! You might not think they go together, but you'd be wrong!

Check out "Wierd Al" Yankovic's "Christmas at Ground Zero." If Brad Fiedel hadn't composed the Terminator theme music, this would no doubt have been the next best choice:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGdrMOttV_s

Christmas at Ground Zero

It's Christmas at ground zero.
There's music in the air.
The slay bells are ringing,
And the carolers are singing,
While the air raid sirens blair.

It's Christmas at ground zero.
The button has been pressed.
The radio just let us know
That this is not a test.

Everywhere the atom bombs are droppin'.
It's the end of all humanity.
No more time for last minutes shoppin'.
It's time to face your final destiny.

It's Christmas at ground zero.
There's panic in the crowd.
We can dodge debris,
While we trim the tree,
Underneath a mushroom cloud.

You might hear some reindeer on your rooftop,
Or Jack Frost on your window sill.
But if someone's climbing down your chimney,
You better load your gun and shoot to kill.

It's Christmas at ground zero,
And if the radiation level's OK,
I'll go out with you and see all the new
Mutations on New Year's Day.

It's Christmas at ground zero.
Just seconds left to go.
I'll duck and cover with my yule-tide lover,
Underneath the mistletoe.

It's Christmas at ground zero.
Now the missles are on their way.
What a crazy fluke. We're gonna get nuked,
On this jolly holiday.

What a crazy fluke.
We're gonna get nuked,
On this jolly holiday.

An obvious one would be "Welcome to the Machine" by Pink Floyd

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCfVFxRsKQc

Another one I like, Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" has an element that makes me think if fantasy'sci-fi, and seems to fit into some of the stuff the writers like.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9I6qfS3xsA

Always been something eerie about Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind"

I've actually got a REALLY good one...

It could apply to Sarah or Cameron, and the music and lyrics jive EXTREMELY well...

And an AWESOME guitar solo in the middle of the song...

"Glory Box" by Portishead

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF-GvT8Clnk

I'm so tired, of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long

Just. .

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be ee, a woman
I just wanna be a woman

From this time, unchained
We're all looking at a different picture
Thru this new frame of mind
A thousand flowers could bloom
Move over, and give us some room

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be ee, a woman
I just wanna be a woman

[INSTRUMENTAL]

So don't you stop, being a man
Just take a little look from our side when you can
Sow a little tenderness
No matter if you cry

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be ee, a woman
Its all I wanna be is all woman

For this is the beginning of forever and ever

Its time to move over...

Derek could take a root canal without blinking - those resistance guys are tough!

But how about this Monday's episode, "Self-Made Man?" It supposedly features a terminator mistakenly sent back to the 1920's, and probably needs some authentic 20's music.

Anybody know what they might use? Remember, the producers reached far back in time for this season's opening montage sung by Shirley Manson, "Samson & Delilah." Not very familiar with the 20's, maybe they'll go with jazz, blues, or something...

Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" (turn of the Century ragtime, but still appropriate):

George Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue" (Ferde Grofé's orchestration):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddxuynM6q0k (Part Two)

I'm a huge local band supporter .. I love local talent.

There is a Maine band called Head Start .. they have a song that I like to relate to John/Sarah.
(Language Warning .. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5362811549214241025)
It's about a women making a guy a bastard. Her mood swings faster. Acts like his master. Worries about their health. You can make it seem pretty close to a John/Sarah relationship, although sometimes the song was intended for the opposite intention. But it works if you want it to.

Thanks for the links, Cuckoo. Had forgotton about Scott Joplin and Gershwin, maybe we'll get to hear something from them in "Self-Made Man." Producer Josh Friedman definitely has an ear for appropriate musical selections.

OT, but that link to Randy Newman's "Political Science" got me to thinking about another novelty song that I haven't been able to track down anywhere - "Junkyard Rednecks," sung to the tune of "Teenage Wasteland." I only heard it once, years ago, and haven't been able to find it on YouTube. Know any other site that might have a quirky song like that?

Thanks again anyway, Cuckoo, and I'm amazed that I almost ran into you in real time!

About Neil Diamond, he was a remakable songwriter and composer, but most of his stuff was so maudlin that I could stomach it only in small doses - way too depressing. OK, I have a soft spot for "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show," but don't tell anyone ;-)

Still thinking about "Self-Made Man" though. What does a terminator in the 1920's without a mission do? Become a vaudeville entertainer? Had a brief flash of him linking up with the early Moe, Larry, and Curly - maybe that's where they learned their sucker-punching shtick...
