There is a series of fantastic books by S.M. Stirling. It's a series of three books. First is, T2 Infiltrator, then T2 Risisng Storm, then T2 The Future War. Well worth reading, if you like the Terminator series.

Yep, another poorly worded question, the first time: "What other books are similar to the Terminator franchise?"I think the REAL question is, which books INFLUENCED what BECAME the "Terminator franchise?" While it may be difficult to trace it all to one or two books, it seems to me that a great deal of sci-fi "theory" went into the Terminator, and continue to contribute to its lasting greatness. 0 out of 3 found this valuable. A.E. Van Vogt's short story "The Vault of the Beast" contains several scenes that are almost directly copied by T2.One, the creature forms metallic cutting and stabbing weapons from his hands, like the T-1000. Two, the creature spreads itself out imitating the floor. After a person walks across it, the creature rises up and takes the form of the person and confronts him The may be a couple of other scenes. However, the theme of the story has no resemblance to the Terminator franchise. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have been trying to explain to these people why the Tv sieres is going the way it is,is becouse of the books...also way T3 came out the way it did.It seems to me that no one gives a damn.They just talk to hear themselves talk! I read Ellison's story "Soldier" years ago when I was a teenager. When I saw the first Terminator movie I assumed that it was derived from the story as it was pretty much the exact same premise. Not having observed too closely, I was surprised to read that Ellison had no connection. In my opinion his suit is long overdue and had total merit.

You could also count all of Isaac Asimov's Robot series -- he deals in depth with robots, their thinking process and their ability to feel. Of course, one major difference is that they're all bound by the 3 laws of robotics which makes them, to quote a line from i of his books, 'indistinguishable from a good human being' -- in other words, termination is a BIG no-no ;) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. What comes to mind for me is the Twilight Zone script that was about a computerized hand, where the more fingers the guy installed the smarter it became.I also have writers that have shared with me a lot of the elements that DIDN'T wind up in T3 - and were gonna be used by JF in S3 of TSCC were in treatments written by James Cameron, but bc he left the franchise - due in large part to falling out with wife Linda Hamilton - they are more myth than mythos...can't confirm, but seems plausible to me. I have a deleted scene from T1 that sets up the T2 story pretty good. Worth a look to see how things develop. I would also lean heavily on Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" series, which I can't imabine anyone doing science fiction not being influenced by. The did the Will Smith movie I Robot based upon this. Concept of army of cyborgs notwithstanding! Do you find this valuable? |

I've never rated asimov as a writer,try to plough through the foundation series on a rainy day and you will see what i mean,and anyway the laws of robotics dont exist and dont apply,just ask any major arms manufacturer.
