OT -- Robert Rodriguez' "Predators" movie premiere's July 9.
From the trailer, it looks like the Predators have captured a number of human warriors and put them together on a game preserve planet to be the quarry for a hunt. Of course, the humans will try to survive and escape while being killed one at a time.
It looks pretty interesting and I respect the director and the cast. Looking forward to seeing this movie.
The trailer looks pretty good:

Is there no future for the Terminator film franchise?
"yeah of course mr.rotten tomatoes.com number 1 fan would respond that way" Please provide something to support your "argument" that good stories are no longer a desirable or expected part of (action) films. Because it looks to me like more unsupported, uncited straw grasping... again.
Did the Y2K event suddenly knock writers down the industry's food chain and make choreographers the apex predator?

New $70 million 3D animated PG-13 Terminator film announced
Movie web news:
Terminator 3000 Coming from Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment August 13th, 2010
Hannover House has announced that it is teaming with Vancouver-based Red Bear Entertainment to develop Terminator 3000, a $70-million dollar budgeted, 3D animated feature film based on the characters and situations introduced in the original Terminator.
The story details for Terminator 3000 are being kept under close wraps, but the writers and production team have a stated goal of minimizing violence in order to obtain a PG-13 level of material.
Hemdale produced and distributed director James Cameron's original Terminator feature, but released the sequel rights in 1990 to Carolco, which later transferred the rights to ultimately end up under the control of Halcyon Media. Santa Barbara based Pacificor, LLC prevailed in the most recent auction and transfer of rights to the franchise in January, and retains approval and licensing authority over the proposed Terminator 3000 project.
Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment will release details of the production timing, financing and principal production personnel later this year, in advance of a proposed January, 2011 start.

stan winston died
The 80's
In 1982, Winston received his first Oscar nomination for Heartbeeps, by which time he had set up his own studio.
In 1983, Winston designed the Mr. Roboto facemask for the American rock group Styx. [1]
Winston reached a new level of fame in 1984 when James Cameron's The Terminator premiered. The movie was a surprise hit, and Winston's work bringing the metallic killing machine to life led to many new projects and additional collaborations with Cameron. In fact, Winston won his first Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 1986 on James Cameron's next movie, Aliens.
Over the next few years, Winston and his company received more accolades for its work on many more Hollywood films, including Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands, John McTiernan's Predator, Alien Nation, The Monster Squad, and Predator 2.
In 1989, Winston made his directorial debut with the horror movie, Pumpkinhead, and won Best First Time Director at the Paris Film Festival. Although poorly received at the box office, Pumpkinhead has since become somewhat of a cult classic. His next directing project was the child-friendly A Gnome Named Gnorm (1990) starring Anthony Michael Hall.

Has T4 Been Shut Down?
"Cuckoo4CocoaPuffs will be pleased. He held little hope for a decent T4 production with currently selected writers and director. Perhaps he was right." I'm doing a happy dance right now! =)
Put the resources into THIS show for now, Halycon (whatever conglomerate you are), so Josh can get even more superb directors, quality writers, more staff so he can write more of the episodes himself, better special effects, more elaborate stunts and action pieces, etc. And the ability to shoot away from the backlot more often in more locales!!
Halycon and Josh potentially have over 200 or more (always could use more!) hours, given a decent run and 22-24 episodes each subsequent season, to tell the conclusion of this tale in the present, especially with extended home video versions of each episode, with great character development, a lot of drama and heart, gobs of intrigue, plenty of action, etc.
And more time to try new and different stylistic things with the story so it doesn't get stale.
Why the money men think three 2 hour movies with the wrong directors and the wrong writers will be even better, I don't know. It didn't help the Alien or Predator franchises! After the second Alien film and the first Predator film they became a joke. That's what Terminator, the film franchise was becoming too.
The Star Trek movies? They should have stopped after number four. Go out on a high note, rather than die with a whimper.

OT - favourite Sci Fi movie ever?
Just wondered what sci fi movie you people think is the best ever...I'd like to say one of the Terminator films (1 would be right up there and 2 would be in contention) but for me it has to be Blade Runner, such a great film with great style, acting, music, plot, imagination and action....One of if not the best movie of all time IMO, sci fi or not.

Terminator: 2026
"Dude, is this serious? If you are (which I doubt it), aren't you about to get sued into oblivion for (a pretty clamorous) copyright infrigement? Just askin'..." With Fan films it is very easy to get around this sort of stuff. Star Wars has a ton of fan films that you can get for like 5 bucks at conventions from venders. There are some Alien and Predator ones out there as well. Even Star Trek has them.
We have already made a fan film "Pirates of the University." On youtube it's about Jack Sparrow in College. So there are many ways to get around it. If we utter the name John Connor we may be screwed, but if we say something a long the lines of "Some guy named Connor said this on the radio." we have made it know that yes this is Terminator, with out breaking the rules.

The Marvel of Another Stan - We Remember Stan Winston
While Stan Lee has always had the mantle of “Stan the Man” for me, there is another Stan that made innovation, quality work, outstanding work ethic and memories in both the arena of television and feature films, that will last a lifetime. I am of course talking about the master - nay - Father, of modern practical special effects, Stan Winston, who died yesterday - Father’s Day 2008.
Stan had tickled my imagination in 1982’s “The Thing” - a movie my father introduced me to the same year that my best friend Carl and I went to see so many movies that kindled the spirit for The 2GuysTalking Podcast. The Thing, starring Kurt Russell and an assortment of nightmare-conjuring beasties, is one of my many favorite movies that have adorned my collection over the years that feature magical, otherworldly memories that will always stay with me. Stan made a life of creating monsters, body damage and other visual tools that allowed a myriad of directors to take audiences on amazing rides that will continue to last a lifetime and helped to create the truly special effects that were and are always elements of the focus of all of our TERMINATOR Podcasts.
A different kind of undeniable monster finally took Stan to that special effects house in the final frontier yesterday, Father’s Day. Cancer can be a cruel and terror-inducing experience, but I am happy to know that Stan could and probably DID create at LEAST something more horrifying to cause even Cancer to tremble.

Will Director McG demolish T4?
"Yup I agree. McG doesn't have a good track record. I think it's highly possible he'll do a screwup on T4, unless the rest of the crew is really superb" I don't hate the guy, I just think the track record speaks volumes that he might not be the right director for this franchise.
Just like if Michael Bay or Bret Ratner was at the helm. You pretty much know what to expect from those guys.
Even without the lousy scripts the Alien and Predator franchises were ruined with terrible or at least the wrong directors for the type of movies they were.
AVP and AVP 2 were awful, low-brow attempts at sucking money from the popular movies that many people loved from the 1970's and 1980's (Alien, Aliens, and Predator). T3 and T4 just seem like the Terminator movie franchise is falling down the same hole.
I do worry for this show too only in the sense that in the rush to find bigger ratings with pumped up action, they'll start to lose sight of the charm, warmth, humor, and humanity that makes this Terminator effort more on par with James Cameron's films, and make TSCC more like T3.

Robocop should appear in Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles
"What do you think a YES or a NO and why...." I'd have to say No. Darkhorse did a comic book on this back in the mid 90's, it worked as an alternate universe/timeline story as it didn't involve any of the characters from the movies and Robo Cop was instrumental in SkyNet making the leap to sentience. Can't think of a way to really combine the time lines for the Robo Cop films and the Terminator series though, Robo Cop is more saterical and high tech than Terminator.

RoboCop versus Terminator
Yeah, great game that I played like crazy as a kid. The Genesis version of it is tops as it was one of the first "M-Rated" games and features lots of blood. Really sucks you into the world of the two films. It's a wonder I didn't go crazy and kill my classmates because of that game! LOL

T-3 Was a bad movie???
T3 was a poor follow up to the previous Terminator film's, however it was still entertaining.
Obvious poor casting choices led to uninteresting characters although Claire Danes, a last minute replacement did well with what she had. To me the T-X was just not scary, however I thought it was quite gory (hand through chest to drive car) it was only a 12A here in England.

Terminator 4 is going to be PG-13! :(
"But, but adult works don't sell Happy Meal and Kenner toys to impressionable youngsters with gullible parents!
Again, this looks more like possible AvP "quality" than James Cameron quality. " If it devolves into Alien vs. Predator territory I'm not going to watch it, not even the DVD.
The worst part is, there was no real need for them to go in this direction; the PG-13 movie market is already saturated with product. It seem like every superhero ever dreamed up by Marvel or DC is going to be filmed, no shortage of other PG-13 sci-fi either. Surely there was room for one at least one R-rated adult sci-fi movie series. Terminator fit that bill nicely, no reason to turn it into a run-of-the-mill popcorn franchise.
About the best we can hope for now is for the actor's strike to deep-six Terminator: Salvation.

OT: New Movies 2010
"I just saw a trailer to the movie "Inception" with L. dicaprio as a guy who set people up with dreams they want, and then goes in the dream himself to steal info/ideas. looks pretty interesting , with wild special effects. also has Ellen Page in it. supposed to be out summer 2010. It would be a sci-fi action -suspense- thriller, and hopefully good. shutter Island, his last movie sucked due to bad story., but it still made $ aside from that am waiting for the one with stallone and other older actors. wanna let others know about a good movie feel free to do so." I'm hoping inception will have more than special effects. A more sophisticated story would put it in the same ballpark as Minority Report.
I've also got my eye on The Adjustment Bureau and Predators. I am not as hopeful for a return to the premise of The Thing.
