Just as Derek reached the entrance a blast sent rocks and dirt flying out. Clark grabbed Derek and pulled him away from the heart of the blast. Once the dust cleared they saw that the entrance had been sealed. Unsure if it was the machines trying to cut off the K's escape route or Kyle trying to blow up the machines Derek shoved Clark away from him and ran back to the entrance that Kyle and Kilee had used.
In the cave Kilee had slipped away from Kyle and got up close to one of the machines. Kyle was laying covering fire, but the machine Kilee was close to saw her. It turned and shot her. She was able to turn and take the shot in the left shoulder. Kyle screamed when he saw Kilee fall and lit a bomb and threw it into the main group of machines. He managed to grab Kilee and pull her out of the caves just before the bomb exploded. The dust and rocks pelted them, but they were alive. They sat panting and starring at the cave in. They both knew it would be impossible to get Col. Lewis and the group with him through the cave now. As Kyle was fixing up Kilee's wound Derek came running around the corner. Seeing the two of them alive he grabbed them both in a hug. "What happened?" he asked. "Ambush a bunch of metal was holding the caves. We need to find another way to Lewis." Kyle answered. Kilee was still sitting on the grounds flexing her left arm. She was unsure if she would be able to handle the rifle she brought. She looked up at Kyle "Give me your pistol. I can't use this." she threw the gun at Kyle's feet. He looked up at her "What are you planning?" "Connor told them we would be coming for them through those caves. There are other ways in, I will find a way through." "You can't" three voices cried out together. Only Kyle knew that Kilee had been seeing Clark off and on for the last year. Though Kilee saw it only as companionship, Clark was falling for her.
"What choice do we have?" she asked. "We can take the caves over by Turner’s point and go the long way around." came the cool voice of John Connor. The group looked up at him. "General Davies said he heard that machines where in the caves. I was unable to reach any of you on the radio so I brought the Calvary." he answered their unspoken question. Then he knelt down by Kilee and looked at her wound. He said "You can go back with Jennifer and get fixed up." "NO!" Kilee said. "I will complete the mission sir." she glared up at him. John sighed "You don't have to. We are close enough to camp for you to return, your hurt." "I don't recall that ever stopping you!" A hard look came across John face "Be thankful you are not me!" he said in a low voice that only Kilee heard. "I will not sit at home with the other women wondering if my family is alive or not when I can be there with them and know." she said. John sighed "You are very stubborn my dear!" He then reached out and pulled her to her feet. Next he pulled out his plasma pistol and slid it into her spare holster. Then took Kyle's and handed it to her. "That should keep you safe. Let's go." They took the long way through Turners Point. No machines where in these caves, but they heard activity in the woods above them in places. Once they got to the end of the cave Kilee went ahead to see what the situation was. Even though the four guys tried to grab her and keep her back. She walked to the mouth of the cave and looked through the foliage there and saw a group of about five machines and two hybrids. She lined up a shot and dropped the hybrids from her hiding spot. Behind her she heard John swear "Shit" and then he was beside her with the long range rifle and Kyle was next to him with the explosives. Between the two they made short work of the machines.
They made their way carefully through the woods to the location that Col. Lewis was at. No other machines hindered their process. As they came into view of the group Col. Lewis came up and greeted Connor "Well sir I didn't think you would come personally." John smiled "I needed to stretch my legs!" the two men shook hands and then they quickly got the camp packed up and ready to move out. Clark kept trying to get Kilee to sit down and rest, but she insisted on helping Kyle with the weapons inventory. As they were ready to head back to the caves one of the scouts that John had set up to as look outs came back. "We need to hurry sir, the machines are moving to were we finished of that little group." Without hesitation John said "Lets move out!" The soldiers took positions around the group to keep them safe. They made it back to the ridge above the cave entrance when they saw another group of about ten machines inspecting the ones they had taken out. Kilee and Kyle looked at each other and nodded. At the same time the two took off running down the hill away from the group they were with and made sure the machines saw them. John and Derek both swore when they saw this. But nothing could be done now. Their ploy worked as most of the machines went after them. They were careful to stay among the trees and not let the machines get a clear shot at them. With only two machines left behind John had two shooters take them out when he got the group into the caves he placed Col. Lewis in charge, and explained the situation of the machines. Then he turned to Derek "Let's go get them." they bid good bye to the group and went out after the double K's. They came across them pinned down in a fire fight with the eight remaining machines. They had managed to take out three, but could not get clear shots on the others and were only able to keep them away form their hiding place.
Using their surprise appearance John and Derek were able to eliminate two more machines. The rest continued shooting in the two locations. John left Derek where he was and started to move around to get a better shot. Kyle did the same with Kilee. The two men ended up meeting in a small group of trees. They smiled and moved together into the machines. Kyle lit a bomb and threw it into the middle of the machines as John opened fire on them. Now that Kilee and Derek knew their position they also shot into the smoke from the bomb. When the dust cleared the machines lay in ruin. The four of them met in the clearing near the machines. Kilee was the last to enter. The men turned to look at her and Derek barely caught her before she fell. She had lost a lot of blood and was week form it. "Let's get her home." John said. They took turns carrying her back to the cave entrance. Once inside they ran into Clark and two other soldiers who had decided to stay back and wait for them. Clark moved to take Kilee from John and he gave her to him. "We need to get her home." "What are we waiting for." the small group headed back to their camp. the first person they saw inside was Cameron. She had been waiting around to see if they would return. She saw Derek carrying the semi conscious Kilee and asked "What happened?" "She was shot" Derek said as he laid her onto a stretcher that one of the medics brought up to him. John put his hand on Kyle shoulder, "Go ahead with her, we can debrief you later. The rest of you let's go to the debriefing room now." The group separated. Cameron grabbed Derek's arm "Are you alright?" she looked up worried into his face. He smiled "I'm fine." "Reese come on." John called. Derek smiled one more time at Cameron and followed John. "wait" Cameron said "don't forget to tell him about the place." Derek nodded.
As Kyle entered the room Derek was telling the group about the building that Cameron said she saw when she had gone for a walk a few nights earlier. She said that it had heavy machine guards around it. Derek stopped to ask Kyle "How is she." Kyle said "She's fine, the bullet went threw her shoulder and they patched it up okay. She lost a lot of blood, but they were able to find a donor for a transplant." "Who" John asked. Kyle grinned "Katie" John laughed knowing that the two women didn't always see eye to eye, mainly because they were so much alike. "She will love that!" They continued to go over what hey were to do with the information Derek presented.
In the infirmary a few hours later Kilee awoke in the dark alone. She tested her shoulder it would heal she decided. Then she saw two blue lights glowing in the corner. "What are you doing here?" "I don't sleep I thought I would keep an eye on you" "I'm fine" "I see that, know tell me how you know what I am." "Can't figure it out yourself?" "I remember you, I saw you in the camp." "We are in the camp." "NO! My camp. the day I came on line. You were escaping." Kilee looked at her. "Let me look at your chip." "Why?" "Because you are different from the others aren't you." "How would you know that" "I made you different." Cameron looked confused "I need to go report." She started to walk out the door. Kilee knew that she had to stop that report. She pulled her self up the grabbed an exposed wire and called Cameron's name. The machine turned. Kilee shoved the exposed wire into Cameron’s face. The machine dropped and landed on another bed. Kilee went to work quickly, she only had 120 seconds to remove the chip. She went and got the tools she needed and cut open the access point.
She opened it up and pulled out the chip. Next she quickly covered up Cameron and switched the bed she was in with the one Kilee was suppose to be in. Kilee then slipped out and headed to the programming room. Once inside she hooked up Cameron's chip. She had to be careful so that Cameron would not come on line and learn all their information. She gave the chip enough power for her to look into it. She soon realized that sky net had saw some of the programming and tried to bury it. She also realized that this chip could not be erased. It's files could only be blocked from the machines accessing them. Kilee went to work to try and override some of the programming that sky net had 'fixed' of her earlier work. She was able to make Cameron's main mission to protect John Connor, but Cameron would still report to sky net, Kilee couldn't even access these files. It was the best she could do. She went to place the chip back into Cameron only to find John Connor standing over the bed waiting for her. "So you really did figure it out." "You don't understand." Kilee started. "Oh I understand more than you think." He pointed to Cameron. She is one of the machines that was sent back to watch over me as a child. She had taken me to some caves she found in New Mexico the night before the bombs fell. My mother and uncle were to met us there the next day. Of course none of us knew that the bombs where going to fall." he trailed off a moment "My mother never showed up, I never saw her again." He turned to look at Kilee. "You are more loyal then I ever gave you credit for, so I am going to tell you something before you replace that chip. This machine has my loyalty. She has saved my life more times then I care to remember. Treat her as if she were my sister understand. Only love can free her Kilee." He placed a hand on her shoulder "Do what you think is right." and walked out.
Kilee replaced the chip and left as Cameron powered back up. She couldn't help but think about what John had said. John had known Cameron, did he know what Kilee had done to her. Did he know that she wasn't like the other machines. And then the thought hit her He had known she was a machine from the first time he saw her and let her stay in the camp. He really was crazy, she thought as she slipped into her bed and went to sleep. The next few months were really uneventful. John and Derek continued to watch the building that Cameron told them about. Kilee learned more and more about programming chips. She was able to get her hands on Cameron’s chip one more time three months after she last reprogrammed it. She placed into it vocal commands and a secret code that only she would be able to unlock when it was necessary. Then the reports started coming about men going missing. Some where on patrol, others only out enjoying the fresh air, and never came back. John set up the buddy system but not even this stopped the disappearances. There had been no change in the building that they where watching, so John decided to open up the search. he set out whole platoons to try and find where the machines were working. It took several more months before they found the small building hidden behind tons of junk cars and useless metal. They saw that the machines where harvesting air plane engines for some reason. many thought that they where building some huge machine that would wipe them out. Others thought that it was a weapon of some mass destruction. Only one person was even close to guessing what it really was. He knew that the double K's time together was growing short. So he had them go out on patrol as much as possible. He also set it up do that they would have much of their free time off together. John Connor watched over his father and his best friend knowing the pain he was about to cause her.
