HOW I WOULD REWRITE BORN TO RUN IF I KNEW SEASON 3 WOULD BE CANCELED
Aug 11 2010, 3:14 PM EDT
If I knew the show would be permanently canceled at the close of Season 2, I would write Born to Run differently. My goal would be to have it not be so open ended and to allow the viewers some better sense of closure to the whole story. Of course there are many ways to do this. This is just one idea:

The episode would begin similarly with Agent Aldridge meeting with Sarah in the interrogation room, and Aldridge would also ask her about Danny Dyson. John Henry and Weaver term would overhear this, and John Henry would begin a web search investigation of Dannys activities.Ellison meets John and Cameron and asks, Will You Join Us, and John and Cameron resolve to break Sarah out. In the next scene, Water Guy term gets speared by Weaver in the Zeira Corp garage. Weaver term, John Henry, and Ellison realize Kaliba AI has found them and they need to destroy it as soon as possible. Cameron does the jailbreak for Sarah. The Connors meet with Weaver term, John Henry, and Ellison. Weaver term explains she is against Skynet. John Henry says he found a possible link between Danny and Kaliba AI. Sarah and Weaver term agree that the Connors will ask Tarissa Dyson about Danny and John Henry will upload himself into the military industrial computer system and defend it against Kaliba AI. He finds he can use the backdoor software worm that Fischer installed. The Connors visit Tarissa Dyson and learn of Dannys secret hideout, which is where Kaliba AI is likely to be. Sarah, John, Cameron, Weaver term, and Ellison with some of Zeiras security force attack Dannys hideout, killing a group of human water guys in a firefight, and battling and destroying the HK prototype, now fitted out with weapons. They find Kaliba AIs hardware rack and destroy it. John Henry reports remotely that Kaliba AI tried to escape by loading himself into the military industrial computer system, but John Henry successfully destroyed the Kaliba AI program on the net. John asks Weaver term for help to repair Cameron and he emotionally watches them leave together. The story ends with Kaliba AI defeated, John Henry protecting against Judgment Day, and Ellison offering to help Sarah and John elude the FBI. |

Posted on another thread:I’m no fanfic writer, but I can try my hand at analyzing the choices made in Born to Run. 1. Cam dead or alive? **BtR: Cam appears out of commission, and her personality may have been lost. Ambiguous outcome. ***Me: Keep her alive and active. Some battle damage is OK. 2. John Connor in the present or future? **BtR: JC is in a bleak post-Judgment Day future where no humans know him. ***Me: Keep him in the present, standing against Skynet and Judgment Day. 3. Sarah in jail or at large? **BtR: Sarah is at large, chasing Kaliba and being chased by the FBI. ***Me: Keep Sarah at large, chasing Kaliba and being chased by the FBI. 4. Weaver and John Henry stay at Zeira or jump to the future? **BtR: Both jump to the future, abandoning the present, not caring about stopping J-Day. ***Me: Keep’em both in the present to help the Connors stop Skynet and prevent J-Day. 5. Kaliba remains an unchecked threat or Kaliba gets defeated in the present? **BtR: Kaliba remains a threat against Weaver and John Henry and positioned to cause J-Day. ***Me: It would be a great ending for the series if the Connors and Weaver could defeat Kaliba. 6. Water Boy terminator and flying HK remain mysterious threats or are used as ineffectual weapons against Zeira? **BtR: They're used as weapons but aren't effective against Weaver, John Henry, or the Connors. ***Me: They're used as weapons but aren't effective against Weaver, John Henry, or the Connors. These were six key decisions that were addressed in BtR. We saw what the showrunners did with their choices. I can think of a bunch of different ways to lay the story out to play out my choices. The key differences would be that I would keep everybody in the present, and I would have Kaliba defeated so as to provide a satisfying conclusion to the series |
